What are children learning?

Every other Sunday children gather at DI, 9:00 in the morning to make offerings to the Buddha, chant and learn the Dhamma. Children bring flowers, incense sticks and candles and participate in preparing the offerings. After chanting the priest tells them a story about the life of the Buddha emphasizing the good, the bad and the moral. Children are encouraged to interact and ask questions. At the end everyone gets a treat for participation.

What can children do at home?

• Have your child retell the story that learnt at school. Ask them what the moral is.
• Have your child practice five precepts (Pansil) in Pali. Make sure that he/she understands the meaning.
• Encourage your child to write a story, an essay or draw a picture on the life of the Buddha and send to us so that we can publish them in our monthly newsletter.

Note to parents:

• Please have your child/children bring flowers, incense sticks and a candle every time he/she attends school.
• We need volunteer teachers. So please sign up.
