PROJECTS

Future Plans

Current committee of Dharmapala Institute has formulated a master plan and a Vision for the future of our Institute. In the near future, after review and approval by a steering committee, all members will be given an opportunity to provide their input. In addition, we plan to take necessary action to streamline the finances, with a view to achieving our main goals. Some major items in our plan are:

1.1 Building Expansion and Restructuring Project

We plan to embark on a building expansion project which is a pressing need due to activities of the Dharmapala Institute. The present building’s lack of space to hold a large congregation of people is felt very often, and we hope to address this issue by expanding the hall area of the current DI premises. In addition, we plan to restructure the utility areas of the building to suit the needs of DI. This will be one of the major undertakings of the Dharmapala Institute. We are confident, that with all the assistance from members and well-wishers, we can accomplish this task.

1.2 Creating a Library of Buddhist Literature

Dharmapala Institute already possesses a large number of valuable books on Buddhism. There is no proper place for these books to be kept. There is also no organized way of borrowing these books. We plan to set up a library facility to address this need. The building restructuring project will be done with this in mind.

1.3 Interior Decor as used in Traditional Sri Lankan Temples

In Sri Lankan Buddhist temples, you will often see a traditional style of painting that depicts various Jathaka stories from previous lives of Siddhartha Gauthama. To create this atmosphere, Dharmapala Institute will decorate with paintings of this style. This too will be attempted, once the building restructuring project is complete.
