Vesak 2019 – Vesak Ceremony and Uposatha Observance – Sunday May 19th

Dear Dhamma Friends, 

Dharmapala Institute warmly invites you to participate at the annual Vesak celebration on Sunday May 19th2019. We have the Vesak Uposatha observance program from 8.30 to 3.30 PM and the annual Vesak Buddha Pooja Ceremony in the evening, commencing at 5.00 PM. Venerable Kannadeniye Santa thero and Venerable Weragoda Sujatha thero will be conducting the Vesak Uposatha program. At the end of the day (7.00 PM) we will have the Vesak Dansela and lighting of the lanterns.

08:30 – 09:00    Vandana & observing Sil

09:00 – 09:45    Meditation

11:30 – 12:00    Buddha Pooja

12:00 – 01:00    Lunch

01:00 – 01:30    Walking mediation 

01:30 – 03:30    Dhamma discussion – cont..     

03:30  PM         Taking five precepts and end of Uposatha observance

05:00 – 07:00    Vesak ceremony pooja & Vesak Bakti Gee

07:00  PM         Vesak Dansala  & Lighting lanterns 

We encourage all our members to participate at the Vesak program as their time permits, and make use of this event to strengthen your own dhamma practice. You may feel free to join the meditation sessions and dhamma discussion forums at any time of day. If you plan to attend the uposatha observance Day, you may have your breakfast at home and be present at the Dharmapala Institute premises by 8.30 AM. A group of Dharmapala Institute devotees are generously offering the meal-dana for the Vesak Uposatha program.


On Saturday 11thand 19thof May there will be Bakti Gee practices taking place at the Dharmapala Institute. If you would like to participate at the Vesak Bakti Gee please let us know and we will send you further details of this program. At the end of the day we will have the Vesak ceremony pooja, and Vesak dansela followed by the lighting of Vesak lanterns. Tony and Dayani Perera and family are generously offering the ‘Vesak Dansela’.
