SCHOOL EVENTS

Many successful projects were launched by the Daham Pasala this past year to increase student involvement in religious and cultural activities. We are happy to declare that the students have assumed a major role in the regular religious activities of the temple such as Atavisi Buddha Pooja and Katina pinkama, thereby espousing the unreserved participation of their parents. This enthusiasm makes these events smashing successes. The students of the Daham Pasala sang religious hymns (Bhakti Gee) during our Vesak celebration, standing by the Vesak Pandol (Thorana) that adorned that night. At its conclusion, seeing the children dressed in white Sri Lankan national dress offer flowers to the Buddha and the Bodhi tree, brought tears to the eyes of many a person present that day. This silent endorsement by the community was refreshing.
For the Poson full moon day celebrations, our students, ages ranging from 2 to 12 years old, acted the “Sama Jataka,” a Sinhala stage play. This performance, in which the dialog was completely in Sinhala was unequivocally considered a remarkable success by the attendees. These challenging endeavors provided our community an opportunity to be proud of our talented and spirited children by witnessing these tangible accomplishments.
